It's not technology...

...it's an inbound train

Not just any old inbound train, that there is a bonafide, communist-era, Moscow metro train.

It's April 2011, and I'm in Russia. Man alive I make some mad decisions.

...it's a beautiful butterfly

Sometimes, it's the detail that matters. The gentle blur of koi, swarming underneath. The slight indentation (but not breaking) of the water around the edges of the wings. The intricacy of colour across the span.

The South American Butterfly is a beautiful creature; it rests quietly, without a care in the world.

...it's showing the world you're Spider-Man

London's Southbank is home to many a performer, young and old.

This kid however, small and spindly in frame, wasn't there for the adulation and fame. This kid just wanted to prove his name.

And he did. Over and over again.

...it's a classic market morning

Portobello road is one out my favourite places in Londontown; from gorgeous antiques through to second-hand clothes, the traders here seem to have it all.

Including an almost limitless supply of great photography fodder. The photo below, while not being anything winning to look at, is one of my favourites out of God knows how many photowalks this past year. Perfect composition, lovely colours and just the right amount of sunshine.

Onion, cucumber, tomato; glorious.

...it's the rule of thirds

One muffin, sliced in two, toasted then buttered. One sausage, split and grilled. Egg, fried. Baked beans, hot from the pan, served in a ramekin.

When it comes to food porn, composition is everything.

Breakfast is served.

...it's Haturday

"It's my birthday!" she says

"Hurrah!" we exclaim

"On a Saturday" she explores

"Even better!" we proclaim

"I shall throw a party" she says

"Of course" we reply

"A HAT party?" she ponders

"Hat-urday!" we cry

...it's just not immediately obvious

Browsing through my 'thisismyn8' on this handset of mine, you have to wonder what qualifies as 'good enough' to be included.

The photo below is notable only for its averageness. The angles aren't particularly pleasing and the light isn't perfect either. Except, that isn't the point.

The sight of morning steam rising over a snow-drenched Finnish rooftop is, to me at least, the perfect catalyst for an ear-to-ear grin.

For this photo to even exist, it means that I must have been in Helsinki at the time of capture and, as one of my all time favourite cities, one can begin to understand why I might be smiling.

Geotags are truly wonderful things.

...it's a Venetian Valentine

February 14th, 2011 and winter still lingers.

Icy tendrils, cool to the touch, spread their way along the canals of Little Venice and frost, smiling its early way into the evening's domain, follows suit like an old dog loyally accompanying its master home.

Dusk has arrived in the Vale.

The warm glow of a nearby window insinuates the secret joys that this night of romance should bring; a beacon of light in decaying remnants of the day.

The clink of glasses. Laughter. Tonight is not mine, not I this Venetian Valentine.

Not I.

...it's the best burger in Soho

I'm not kidding, it really is. Byron Hamgurger, situated on London's Wardour Street is one of my favourite places in town.

You couldn't possibly eat there every day and I think you might even struggle with once a week. But, when you get that burger feeling, there really is no substitute.

The meat? Gorgeous. The milkshakes? Glorious.
And the onion rings? To. Die. For.

I must take a photo like this almost every time I visit and yet this one, snapped back in February of this year, is by far and away the best; the colour, the composition, the slightly blurry side dish in the background...

It makes me hungry just looking at it.

...it's a depth of field thing

Starbucks, Pat.
Pat, Starbucks.

The 1000heads boardroom is the scene for many an early morning creative session and the day that this particular photograph was taken is no different.

Armed with a cup of caffeine and a smile, the ideas... await.
